You can scroll on down to see my (terrible) painted Easter eggs. Apparently it’s harder than it looks to paint intricate simple patterns onto eggs. What can I say? I am definitely not an artist when it comes to painting! I kept getting more frustrated with my lack of painting skills with each egg I painted. LOL

This is the last in our series of Easter craft posts for the year! Phew! I’m posting this a little later in the Easter season than I wanted to, but it was a bit of a marathon trying to get all these posts done… and learn how to make videos. So many ideas, so little time! I hope you’re enjoying the videos! Happy Easter everyone!

Check out our video for how to make Wooden Spoon Bunnies and Chicks:

How to Make Wooden Spoon Bunnies and Chicks

Wooden Spoons (6 inch length) Acrylic Paint Googly Eyes Pipe Cleaners Craft foam (paper will also work) Pom Poms Ribbon Craft feathers

You can also use plastic disposable spoons for the bunnies and chicks if you don’t have wooden spoons. I don’t know if you can cut them nicely for the eggs though? If it’s all you have, it’s definitely worth a try! The thinner the plastic spoon, the easier it will be to cut.

Paint your spoons using acrylic paint. I made pink and purple spoons for the bunnies and yellow spoons for the chicks. And for the eggs, I painted a few random colours I found in my collection of paints.

OK, so apparently I’m not an artist when it comes to painting patterns on the eggs. LOL! I’m willing to bet you (and your kids!?) can probably do a way better job at painting your eggs than I did. I recommend using a thin paint brush for the little details – and see what you can come up with. It’s harder than it looks!?!

Use your favourite glue to attach the details to your wooden spoons. I used my glue gun because it dries so quickly, but white glue and/or crafters tape would also work nicely here.

Use a black gel pen to draw the bunny’s face. I got my gel pen from the dollar store and it works perfectly for drawing faces onto the wooden spoons!

For the bunny’s ears, bend a 12 inch pipe cleaner in half to find the middle.

Take one end and cross it over the middle point. Then twist it to hold it in place.

Repeat for the other end of the pipe cleaner. You should end up with two loops (aka bunny ears) that are twisted around the middle of the pipe cleaner.

Attach the pipe cleaner ears to the back of the spoon. Again, I used my glue gun because it’s just so easy – but you could also use white glue or crafters tape. Cut out a circle from pink craft foam (pink paper would also work if you don’t have craft foam). I traced a roll of electrical tape to get my circle – the circle was just a little less than 2.5 inches across. Glue the circle to the front of the spoon. If you plan to add a bow, make sure you leave a bit of space below the head so you have room to tie the ribbon.

Cut a piece of ribbon (I used 3/8 inch polka dotted ribbon from Michaels) and tie it into a bow around the “neck” of your bunny.

Finally, glue on some pom pom feet to your bunny!

And your wooden spoon bunny is complete!

Now for the chick! It’s super easy to make! Glue your googly eyes onto the wooden spoon.

Cut out a small orange triangle for the beak. I used self-adhesive craft foam, but orange paper would work just as well! Glue a yellow craft feather to the back of your wooden spoon.

That’s it! The feathers look so fun when you move this little wooden spoon chick around!

I didn’t get a great picture of my Easter characters with the eggs… I think because I was so embarrassed about my paint job. But bad paint job or not, the ends of the spoons really do make AWESOME Easter eggs!!!

You can make your wooden spoon bunnies and chicks in all sorts of different colours – then dress them up with different coloured bows!

This is such a fun craft for Easter!

And when you and the kids are done making them, the kids can put on a little puppet show with them!!

These wooden spoon bunnies and chicks are such a fun Easter craft idea! They’re easy to put together and make fun little puppets for the kids to play with! It’s so easy to make fun Easter characters using wooden spoons. You can even use the spoons to make Easter eggs — Who would have thought!?!
