Helpful Tips:
Where can I find templates to make stained glass Easter eggs?
We have 12 free printable Easter egg templates for you, in a variety of sizes. There are 38 printable pages total, making it easy to find the perfect design. We used the medium sized Easter eggs to make this craft.
Do I have to use puffy paint to make my stained glass Easter eggs?
No, you can also use black glue (a mixture of 1/2 white glue and 1/2 black acrylic paint), which is what we used in our stained glass suncatcher craft. However, black glue is thinner than puffy paint and may be harder to control for fine details. If you’d rather skip paint altogether and keep this craft low-mess, try cutting an Easter egg outline and decorative shapes from black cardstock or paper. Glue these onto the plastic and colour the sections on the back. This technique works beautifully, as seen in our snowflake suncatchers!
What type of plastic can I use to make Easter egg suncatchers?
We used transparency film (the kind meant for overhead projectors), but you can also use:
A blank laminating pouch (run through a laminator for stability). A plastic folder. The flat part of a clamshell package (like those used for fruit and pastries).
There’s something so magical about stained glass crafts, and these DIY Easter egg suncatchers are no exception! Use black puffy paint to outline your design (just like real stained glass windows!), and then colour with permanent markers to create a glowing effect when the sunlight shines through. So cool! Have fun experimenting with colours and designs to create this unique Easter craft that’ll brighten up both your heart and your home.
