Helpful Tips:
What kind of yarn is best for making pom poms?
Soft acrylic yarn works best for fluffy, easy-to-shape pom pom pigs. Thicker yarns (like chunky yarn) make fuller pom poms faster, while thinner yarns allow for more precise detail when trimming. Try to avoid stringy yarns, like cotton, as they won’t fluff up to provide shape to your pig.
Where can I find a good pom pom maker for my pig pom pom?
Pom pom makers come in a variety of sizes and styles and can be found online, at craft stores, some big box department stores, and even some dollar stores! Having a set with multiple options is really helpful. We used a 2-1/8 inch pom pom maker in this style for our DIY pom pom pig, but there are other styles of pom pom makers too. These plastic pom pom makers are similar to what we used. There are also wooden pom pom makers in both circular and rectangular shapes. For homemade options, check out our how to make a pom pom post. You can learn how to use cardboard, or simply your hand, to create a yarn pom pom!
How can I decorate my pom pom pig?
It’s so fun and easy to decorate these cute pig pom poms! Give them googly eyes or safety eyes for a different look. Or make your pigs different colours, or even striped or spotted! You can even dress up your pig in fun outfits or add cute accessories! We had fun adding top hats to our pom pom pigs!
