Helpful Tips:

What if I don’t have any straws for my paper straw star ornaments?

No problem! Roll coloured paper into a straw shape, tape the edge so it stays together, and it will work just as well! A standard drinking straw is about 1/4 inch in diameter and 7-3/4 inches long, but your rolled paper can be longer or shorter for this craft. It’ll just change the size of your finished star!

What kind of string works best for straw star ornaments?

Any kind of string can be used for this craft. We tried thin ribbon, metallic string, and embroidery thread. All of these options worked well, but we decided we liked the twine look the best. Choose whichever type of string you like!

It’s difficult to fold my paper straw star ornament. How can I make it easier?

When tying the string after adding the straw pieces, it’s important not to tie it too tight. To check whether it’s too tight before knotting the string, tie the first half of your knot and make it the tightness you think is right. Hold the knot in your fingers so it doesn’t slip and try to fold the bottom corner of the shape over to the opposite side. If you can do this, tie the rest of the knot. If you can’t fold the shape over, it’s too tight. Adjust the knot and try again until you find the right level of tension.

Who knew paper straws could be the “star” of the show? Use your paper straw stars to create a starry mobile, dangle them from your curtain rods, or hang them in your holiday wreath! They’re a fast and effortless way to add a homemade touch to your holiday decor.
