What kind of rocks should I use?
“Caribbean beach pebbles” work really well for rock painting. If you’re looking for a larger quantity of rocks you can find them at landscape supply stores, or at a big box hardware store like Home Depot.
What’s the best paint for rock painting?
Acrylic paint works really well for rock painting. Our owls only needed one coat of paint, and the coverage was great! We only used a fine tipped paint pen for outlining the details on the owl, but you could easily use different coloured paint markers to make your entire owl.
Do I need to seal my owl painted rocks?
If you’re just going to display your owl painted rocks inside, then you’re probably okay to leave the rocks as is. But if you’re going to put them outside in the garden, or keep them for a long time, you’ll want to add a protective coating on them. Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours, and then either brush on some Mod Podge or use a spray sealer.
