Helpful Tips:
What’s the best way to colour my ocean slime?
We used blue food colouring and both blue and white iridescent glitter to make our slime ocean coloured. We like the look of fine glitter for this slime, but chunky glitter will also work well! You can also colour your slime with liquid watercolour paint for a really deep blue, or even add in some mica powder to give it both colour and a pearlescent shimmer!
What else can I add to my DIY ocean slime?
There are so many possibilities for add-ins to your blue ocean slime! For added sensory fun, try adding ocean charms or miniature toy sea creatures. Your local dollar store or craft store should have some ocean-themed items suitable for adding to slime, or you can buy them online. You can also add scent to your slime by using essential oils, such as sandalwood, plumeria, coconut, eucalyptus, or peppermint. You can use one scent, make a blend of a few, or buy a specific aquatic fragrance oil like ocean breeze or cool water.
What’s the best activator for my ocean themed slime?
We find that Renu Fresh contact lens solution works best when we make slime. Make sure whatever contact lens solution you use contains boric acid and sodium borate (it will be listed in the ingredients on the package or bottle), otherwise your glue mixture won’t turn into slime. Different brands may contain different amounts of boric acid, so you may need to adjust the amount of activator in your slime if you use a different brand. You can also dissolve 1 teaspoon of borax into 1 cup of hot water and use this liquid as an activator. Add a little bit of the mixture at a time, since it’s easy to over-activate slime with borax. Ocean slime is a simple and super fun summer craft that’s perfect for kids of all ages! With its deep blue shimmer and stretchy, satisfying texture, it’s the perfect way to bring a little bit of the beach into your home — no messy sand required. Happy slime making!
