Helpful Tips:
How much mermaid slime does this recipe make?
Our mermaid slime recipe makes about 1 cup of slime. You can double the recipe if you would like to make 2 cups of slime.
How long does this mermaid slime recipe last?
If you store the slime in a ziploc bag or an airtight container, this mermaid slime should last about a week (and maybe more, depending on how much it’s played with!). We took the slime out after a week and it was still stretchy and soft, though definitely not as soft as when it was first made.
What slime activator do you use to make mermaid slime?
We like to use contact lens solution to make our slime because it’s so simple! We use Renu Advanced Formula by Bausch + Lomb (called Renu Fresh here in Canada), which contains boric acid. Be sure to use a contact solution with boric acid in it (it will be listed in the ingredients on the package or bottle), otherwise your slime won’t turn into slime. Different brands may contain different amounts of boric acid, so you may need to adjust the amount of activator in your slime if you use a different brand.
What type of glue does this slime recipe use?
We recommend using Elmer’s clear glue to make this mermaid slime, because it works consistently and gives good results. You can definitely try another brand of glue, but we can’t guarantee that it will work with our recipe.
What else can I add into my mermaid slime?
Add sequins to the slime for an even bigger sparkle! Or add in sea glass or small gems for some hidden treasure. You can also use seashells to make imprints in the slime! And if you have plastic mermaid toys it would be fun to have them “swim” in the ocean coloured slime.
We love how the light catches the glitter in this aquamarine mermaid slime – it’s SO PRETTY! Making slime is such a fun science experiment, and it makes for great sensory play.
