Helpful Tips:

What makes glow in the dark slime glow?

You can use glow in the dark paint to make your slime glow, like we did here. It’s inexpensive and easy to find at the craft store or online. But Elmer’s also makes a glow in the dark glue in a few different colours, which is a great option. It lessens the ingredient list, meaning you don’t have to use food colouring or paint. Or, you can also buy glow in the dark powder. This has a really good glow effect, but it’s more expensive and you may need to use quite a bit to make the slime glow nicely.

How can I colour my glow in the dark slime?

We used food colouring to colour our slime. But you can also use liquid watercolour paint, acrylic paint, or mica powder. If you use either the glow in the dark glue or powder, you won’t need to colour the slime, since these options come already coloured.

What’s the best activator for glow in the dark slime?

We like to use contact solution to make our slime – it’s really simple! The brand we use is Renu Advanced Formula by Bausch + Lomb (called Renu Fresh here in Canada). Whichever contact solution you use, make sure it contains boric acid. This is the active ingredient that reacts with the glue to turn it into slime. Different brands contain different amounts of boric acid, so you may need to adjust the amount of activator if you use a different brand. You can also use liquid starch or borax in water as activators for slime. We haven’t tested the glow slime with these ingredients, so we recommend you follow the recipe as is.

This glow in the dark slime is easy and inexpensive to make, and it’s sure to provide hours of entertainment. It’s a super cool activity for a fall birthday party, sleepover, or anytime!
