Where can I find templates to make a glitter snowflake ornament?
There are 12 different snowflake templates for you to choose from, with 36 printable pages available! We used the small snowflakes to make our ornaments. The snowflakes made from the line snowflake templates look prettier, in our opinion, but they’re also quite delicate. This makes them harder to remove from the wax paper. Allow them to dry really well, as they can rip if the glue isn’t completely dry. The thicker fill-in snowflakes still look great, and they’re a lot easier for kids to add glue to and to peel off the paper.
What type of glitter is best for making this glitter snowflakes craft?
Fine glitter covers the glue more easily, but medium glitter sparkles more in the light, so it’s really up to you which type of glitter to choose. Chunky or shaped glitter isn’t recommended, unless you use fine glitter to fill in the gaps. We recommend using wintery colours and shades like blue, pink, purple, silver, and iridescent white. But you can also have fun and make a whole rainbow of snowflakes!
How else can I make glitter snowflakes?
We also tested using parchment paper, instead of wax paper, and it worked well enough. The paper does get a bit wrinkly because of the moisture, though, so you may want to tape down the edges of the paper again as the glue dries. Transparency film (like for an overhead projector) also works really well. The glue takes a bit longer to dry than it does on the wax paper, but the snowflakes stay a bit more 3D (raised up), rather than flattening completely. And finally, if you don’t want to make an ornament, you can trace the templates onto a piece of cardstock or watercolour paper. Hold the paper and template against a window to do this, or use a light board. Then you can add glue and glitter to the paper for a fun art project!
