Halloween Slime

This Halloween slime is so easy to make and it’s also incredibly fun to play with! It’s stretchy, soft, and it doesn’t stick to your hands – plus it has a nice glitter shine. This slime also crackles and pops as you knead it, adding to the spooky Halloween vibes. Combine glitter glue, baking soda, and contact lens solution to make homemade slime for Halloween that comes together in just a few minutes! This recipe makes a fairly small batch of slime, so you may want to double it up if you’re making slime for more than one kid. We’re not sure why our green glitter glue went from bright green to murky yellow (maybe the baking soda?), but the yellowish green colour is perfect for Halloween, adding in a bit of an ick factor. We had fun mixing in googly eyes, plastic spiders, and plastic bats to our slime, making a perfect witch’s brew!

What kind of slime activator should I use?

We like using contact lens solution, because it’s so simple to use! We use Renu Advanced Formula by Bausch + Lomb (called Renu Fresh here in Canada). You need to make sure the contact lens solution you use has boric acid in it, since this is the ingredient that activates the slime. Different contact lens solutions may contain varying amounts of boric acid, so if you use a different brand you may need less or more solution in your slime mixture.

What can I add into my Halloween slime recipe?

There are so many Halloween themed items you can add in to your slime! Plastic items are the best to add because you can remove them from the slime and wash them off to use again. Try adding some of the following plastic items: pumpkins, ghosts, vampire teeth, eyeballs, or other plastic insects like flies or ants. You can also add in Halloween coloured pony beads or even Halloween confetti!

What glue is best to use?

We like using Elmer’s glue for making slime, including their glitter glue. You can try another type of glue, but we can’t guarantee that other brands will work (especially dollar store glue).

How long does this Halloween slime last?

It really depends how much the slime is played with, but it should last for a week or two. Be sure to store the slime in an airtight container or ziploc bag. As of writing this post we made the slime 1 week ago and it still feels the same as the day we made it! It’s nice and stretchy and soft.

Slime is the perfect sensory activity for Halloween! Use green, purple, black, or orange glitter glue for fun Halloween colours.
