Helpful Tips:
What type of beads are best for making this beaded plant hanger?
We used various types of plastic beads, including faceted round beads, bicone beads, and sunburst beads. The round beads range in size from 5mm to 15mm. Plastic beads keep the cost of this DIY project low, but you may want to elevate the craft by using glass beads.
What size jar or plant pot does this beaded plant hanger hold?
We made these plant hangers to hold a 32 ounce mason jar. They also nicely fit smaller clay pots (with a 4 to 6 inch diameter). You can easily start with longer cords to hold a larger container, but remember to keep in mind the maximum weight that your fishing line will hold.
What type of string or cord is best for making these hanging beaded lanterns?
We used 8 lb fishing line to make our candle holders. But we definitely recommend a stronger fishing line if you use your beaded creation as a plant hanger, since the soil will weigh more than a candle. If you want to use real candles in the mason jar we recommend stringing beads onto crafting wire. You’ll have to twist the wires to secure them at the end, instead of tying a knot, but otherwise you can generally follow the same process.
Have fun making this unique and functional DIY project with fishing line and beads. It’s a great way to showcase your creativity and style! Plus these glowing lanterns are as beautiful to look at as they are fun to create! Place a battery operated candle in a mason jar and enjoy the light shining through the colourful beads. Or make this versatile DIY piece the new home for your favourite plant.
