What size crochet ghost does this pattern make?
Following the pattern as is, you should end up with a crochet ghost about 4 inches tall and 3 inches wide (or 4-1/4 inches wide, including the arms). The exact size will vary, of course, depending on your tension and the exact yarn used. But you can easily make a different size of ghost by using thinner or thicker yarn. Our larger “papa ghost” that you see in the photos was made with size 6 (super bulky) yarn and an 8mm hook. It’s about 6 inches tall and 6-1/2 inches wide (including the arms).
How can I make the face of the crochet ghost?
We used safety eyes for our ghosties, but you can also embroider the eyes onto the ghost. Or attach googly eyes with fabric glue or use googly eye safety eyes. For the ghost’s mouth, we mostly cut out “O” shapes from felt, but we also sewed on smiley mouths with black yarn for some of them.
What can I stuff my crochet ghost with?
We used poly-fill stuffing for our ghost amigurumi. This stuffing is lightweight, affordable, and easily found at craft stores and Walmart. But you can also use stuffing from an old pillow, or buy a hypo-allergenic cotton stuffing. Or, use scrap fabric or yarn to fill your ghost. This is an eco-friendly technique that also gives the stuffed toy some weight. And if you really want to weigh your stuffy down, to make it stand more easily, add some poly-pellets to the bottom.
These crochet ghosts are hauntingly cute! They make an awesome homemade gift or item for a fall craft fair, and you can whip one up in 1 hour or less. And who says you need to use white yarn to make a ghost? Try making one in your favourite colour! We think either pastel or neon yarn would look really adorable, each creating different vibes for your ghost friend.
