I got the idea from The Moody Fashionista. These were really quick to make. I started by melting the chocolate in the microwave on ultra low heat until it was smooth:
I tried dipping a chip into the chocolate on it’s own and it was way too thick. So I used the same technique as when I made the chocolate dipped pretzels and added some canola oil to make it runnier:
Then I dipped the potato chip into the chocolate:
And set it out to harden on the Silpat. The sprinkles aren’t really mandatory, but they definitely add to the “pretty” factor when you add them on top of the chocolate: I made about a dozen chocolate dipped potato chips. Just enough to sample and see how they would turn out. I left them on the counter to harden on their own. It takes about 15 minutes or so before the chocolate is set. You can put them in the fridge to speed up the process if you want, but sometimes it can cause the chocolate to sweat when you take them out again. My girls loved the chocolate part, but I can’t say they were crazy about the potato chip part. Which is odd, because they usually love chips when they eat them on their own. So that makes me question whether or not the combination of chocolate and potato chips is actually a great idea. Fun? Yes. Pretty? Yes. Delicious? Well, not amazingly delicious, but interesting for sure.
And yes, that is a shoe on the table next to the snack. Just another typical day in our household! I just thought that they tasted okay. I can’t say I’ll be rushing to make them again. Chocolate covered pretzels were delicious! Chocolate covered potato chips, perhaps not as much so.
They certainly are easy to make though. Melt chocolate, dip, sprinkle and you are done. And you end up with a very unique and beautiful snack! Maybe a different brand of potato chip would taste better? Maybe it was just too much salt to have the combination work?
