My kids are still at the stage where they just adore making cards for people. They will find a reason to make a card for any occasion, no matter how small or insignificant the occasion may seem. I recently had a birthday, and my 2 oldest daughters were racing to their craft table to whip up birthday cards for me as fast as they could. I love that they are still so enthusiastic about handmade cards. I’m sure I will be sad the day that they stop doing this! With Mother’s Day approaching, I wanted to come up with a handmade card that they could help create but that is a little more special than the typical crayons and construction paper. These 3D paper flowers are just beautiful and are surprisingly simple to create. Put them on the front of a card for a sweet handmade card for that mom or Grandma in your kids’ life. They can even be framed later to display as a keepsake!

Once you start making these paper flowers, you won’t want to stop! I was inspired by this tutorial on Youtube but changed it up a little bit to go on the front of a card! The best part about this project is that older kids can make it entirely by themselves and younger ones will love helping. And it only requires a few supplies!

3D Paper Flowers

The full tutorial is at the bottom of this post, but here is what you will need:

Card Stock in Spring Colors Glue or Adhesive Roller Scissors

First you will need to cut out about 7 circles for each flower. Use the lid from a bottle or spice jar to trace around to get your circles.

I used 2 similar shades for each flower to give them a little more dimension. You will want a softer shade and a brighter shade of the color.

Fold each circle in half.

Cut a triangle shape out of the top of each folded circle.

Apply adhesive to the outside of the folded circle. You can also use glue for this step if you prefer.

Attach another circle of a contrasting color to the circle.

Keep doing this until you have all 7 pieces glued together. Fan out the flower and glue it down onto another piece of card stock.

Add a stem and leaves with some green card stock.

And you are finished! You can add as many or as few flowers as you want.

Experiment with different color combinations to make the perfect flowers for the occasion! These would also be great for birthday cards or even party decorations!

These 3D paper flowers are SO adorable and would be perfect for a handmade Mother’s Day card craft!
